Disseram-me para entrar numa nova sala:
era assolutamente iluminada,
mas diferente das outras
apenas o mesmo.
Eu fiz o passo e o homem,
o porteiro cósmico,
bateu o portal
na minha cara.
"Desculpa", disse ele,
"só te pedi para entrares,
não para ficar entusiasmado".
Uma manhã, encontrei a porta
aberta outra vez, e o homem
disse: "Sê entusiasta".
Assim sendo
tentei de novo entrar.
Fechando a porta com má vontade,
ele apanhou-me a perna e cortou-a;
não sangrava:
"Desculpa", disse ele,
"Só te pedi para seres entusiasta,
Não para entrar".
Depois
começou a dar-me pão e água
cada dia trazia menos comida.
Depois
ele abriu a porta
lá dentro havia um banquete assado:
não me conseguia mexer.
Behavior Modification, by Charles W. Reid
I was told to enter a new room:
It was blankly bright,
But the different from the others
Just the same.
I made the move and the man,
The cosmic doorman,
Slammed the portal
In my face.
“Sorry”, he said,
“I only asked you to enter,
Not to be enthusiastic”.
One morning I found the door
Opera again, and the man
Said, “be enthusiastic”.
So being
I tried to enter again.
Shutting the door meanly,
He caught my leg, cut it;
It did not bleed:
“Sorry”, he said,
“I only asked you to be enthusiastic,
Not to enter”.
Then
He began feeding me bread and water
Each day brought less meaning.
Then
He opened the door
Inside was a roast feast:
I could not move.
